PHOENIX-Tim McDermott's sacrifice fly pushed ahead the go-ahead in the 10th inning, lifting the University of California Riverside to a 7-6 victory over Grand Canyon at Brazell Stadium on Friday.

Both teams got on the board early, with Canyon grabbing a 4-2 lead after two innings. Riverside (3-1) tied the game in the fourth on a run-scoring double by Jeff Stevens and RBI single by Steve Madril.

The Antelopes (6-2) regained the lead on Brian Sellier's (Phoenix/Mountain Pointe HS) single in the seventh, which gave them a 5-4 lead until the ninth.

After Canyon starter Matt Silcock (Phoenix/Mountain Pointe HS) retired the leadoff hitter, McDermott doubled to right center. Jeremy Aikins (Phoenix/Greenway HS) relieved Silcock, and saw the next four batters reach base on a hit, error and two walks, resulting in the Highlanders taking a 6-5 lead.

The 'Lopes responded with one in the ninth on Jon Hamel's (Scottsdale/Horizon HS) game-tying double. After Ben Menke (Scottsdale/Coronado) walked, Riverside reliever Ed Hurtado struck out the next to batters to end the inning.
Hamel, Cody Ransom (Chandler/Chandler HS) and Matt Forbes (Phoenix/Greenway HS) each had three hits for Canyon, while Adam Winterstrom went 3 for 6 for Riverside.

Hurtado (1-0) picked up the win for the Highlanders and Aikins (1-1) was saddled with the loss.

There has been a schedule change for the remainder of the series. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, starting at Noon. Sunday's 1 p.m. game will be played, weather permitting. Both teams had games rained out last weekend, freeing an extra date on their respective schedules.
