Destinee Duran-Wise joined GCU Athletics as a graduate assistant for equipment operations in May 2026 after completing a standout career with the Grand Canyon women’s soccer program.
A four-year defender for the Lopes from 2021-24, Duran-Wise developed into one of the program’s top leaders and most reliable players. As a senior in 2024, she served as a team captain, started all 20 matches and earned Second Team All-WAC honors along with United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region Second Team recognition. She was a two-time WAC Player of the Week selection and was named to the No Ka Oi All-Tournament Team.
Duran-Wise started all 23 matches as a junior in 2023, helping anchor GCU’s back line during a season that included appearances in the WAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. She played all 90 minutes against USC in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and added five points on two goals and one assist. Across her four seasons, she appeared in 75 matches and made 52 starts while contributing to multiple successful postseason runs.
In addition to her student-athlete experience, Duran-Wise worked in GCU’s game operations and facilities department as a student worker, gaining hands-on experience in event setup, venue operations and day-to-day support for athletic events. In her graduate assistant role with equipment operations, she supports the equipment needs of GCU’s student-athletes, coaches and teams.
A local product, Duran-Wise played club soccer for SC del Sol and attended University High School. She made the Dean’s List at GCU and chose the university because of its proximity to home and its strong sports environment.
