Ashleigh Lopez, who begins her second season with Grand Canyon, joined the Lopes in June of 2023 as a graduate assistant and was elevated to assistant coach in April of 2024.
During the 2023-24 season, Lopez was instrumental in daily operations of the team including film, scheduling, practice plans and scouting.
Lopez enters GCU via University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she spent two and a half years as their women’s basketball assistant. There, she directly assisted the director of basketball operations with responsibilities including video coordinator, organization of Teamworks and assistance in practice and pre-game schedules.
While in Edinburg, Lopez as was a coach for the Rio Grande Valley Jr. Vipers, coaching 5–18-year-olds while helping organize multiple Jr. NBA and Her Time to Play camps. Lopez was also the head coach for the Valley Horned Frogs in the Evolution Basketball Association. She became the first female head coach at that level in Rio Grande Valley.
A native of Edinburg, Texas, Lopez graduated from UTRGV with a bachelor’s degree in multi-disciplinary studies. She was also a member of the women’s golf team during the 2014-15 season.
