As a member of head coach Nicole Powell's staff, Sydney Crafton enters her second year as an assistant coach at Grand Canyon in 2020-21. Crafton was hired in June of 2019.Â
In her first year on staff, Crafton helped to develop the WAC Freshman and Newcomer of the Year.
Crafton joins the Lopes after spending four seasons as an assistant coach for Western Illinois. She oversaw that program’s facility and visiting team schedules, community service opportunities and special events while assisting with all aspects of the basketball side.
With the Leathernecks, Crafton coached a pair of All-Missouri Valley Conference honorees and two MVC All-Newcomer players while also helping the 2016-17 team to the Summit League regular-season and postseason championships and the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance in 22 years.
Crafton played four seasons for Missouri, making 63 starts in 96 career games, after growing up in nearby Jefferson City. In her senior year with the Tigers, the team captain started in 27 games and ranked third on the team in points per game (9.6) and rebounds per game (5.3).
Crafton led the team in field goal percentage as a senior, connecting on 53.4 percent of her attempts, and scored a career-high 26 points against Southeast Missouri State.
The 5-foot-10 guard also competed professionally for one year in Ecuador and Italy.
