Dajae Black enters her second season on staff with the Grand Canyon women's basketball program for the 2021-22 season.
The Lopes added the Lewis alumna to its staff as a graduate assistant in 2020-21, but promoted her to director of basketball operations after one season.
"Having watched Dajae play for the past four years at a great program like Lewis, I knew that she was going to add instant value and positive contributions to our program at GCU," GCU head coachÂ
Molly Miller said. "Now that she is here, that couldn't be more true."
While at Drury, Miller coached against Black and the Lewis Flyers in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition. In the 2019-20 season, Miller and Black faced each other in the GLVC championship game with Miller's Panthers coming out on top.
"I look forward to gaining more knowledge and experience," Black said. "I'm looking forward to helping our players be the best versions of themselves on and off the court."
During her senior season at Lewis, Black started every game, shared the team lead in steals per game (0.8), ranked second in assists per game (2.6) and was third in rebounds per game (4.7) as a 5-foot-7 guard. She also shot 36.4% from 3-point range for a 19-12 team.
Black was also a four-time recipient of the Br. David Delahanty Award, which recognizes Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence. The Flyers went 93-34 (.795) during Black's four-year career.
"I couldn't ask for a better opportunity to be around the game that I love and learn from one of the best coaches in the nation," Black said. "It's obvious she knows what it takes to win."
Black will be using her experience and knowledge to contribute to the Lopes while pursuing a master's degree in Mental Health and Wellness with an emphasis in Family Dynamics.
"She has done a great job jumping right in and taking ownership in key parts of our program," Miller said. "She is a rising young star in our profession and we are fortunate to have her on staff."
