Sandra Wente was announced as assistant coach of the GCU softball program on July 2, 2021.
In 2024, Wente assisted in coaching the winningest season in GCU softball history (50 wins), with the Lopes earning their third consecutive WAC Championship title, and third-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, where they competed in the regional finals for the first time in program history.
In 2023, the Lopes earned their second consecutive WAC Championship Tournament title, and returned the NCAA Los Angeles Regional where they defeated No. 2 UCLA for their first post-season victory in program history.
Prior to her time at GCU, Wente won two National Junior College Athletic Association National Championships and oversaw five All-Americans. Her 18 years of experience includes working at an instructor at many nationwide college camps, including Arizona State, Oklahoma, Stanford, CSU Northridge and Oregon, and for Amateur Softball Association Junior Olympic camps.
Wente's husband, Jon, also previously helped GCU baseball to its first NCAA tournament trip, as the Lopes pitching coach in 2021.
