Sydney Sherrill joined GCU Softball as volunteer coach in 2022 and was promoted to an assistant coach in July of 2023. Â
In 2024, Sherrill assisted in coaching the winningest season in GCU softball history (50 wins), with the Lopes earning their consecutive WAC Championship title, and third-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, where they competed in the regional finals for the first time in program history.Â
In 2023, the Lopes earned their second consecutive WAC Championship Tournament title, and returned the NCAA Los Angeles Regional where they defeated No. 2 UCLA for their first post-season victory in program history.Â
In the summer of 2022, Sherrill played her first professional season for Athletes Unlimited and continued her professional career in 2023 for the OKC Spark’s inaugural season in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch league (WPF) where she earned All-WPF honors and WPF Defensive Player of the Year.
Sherrill had an impressive collegiate career at Florida State University and helped lead the Seminoles to their first National Championship in 2018.  As a Seminole, Sherrill set a school record with 283 games played during her career in Tallahassee, Florida.  Her .382 career batting average ranks 10th all-time in the FSU program record books, while she also notched 43 home runs and 209 RBI’s during her career.  She holds both the school and ACC Conference records for career doubles with 82. Her stellar defense earned her the inaugural Rawlings Gold Glove award at the third base position in 2022. Â
As a three time All American and ACC Conference Defensive Player of the year, Sherrill brings a wealth of elite experience to GCU Softball.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (2021) and a Master Certificate in Athletic Coaching (2022) from Florida State University.
