Kelsie Monroe is in her first season as an assistant coach at Grand Canyon. Monroe was a two-year assistant coach at Azusa Pacific University and a former CSU-Bakersfield standout pitcher.
“We are very excited to add Kelsie Monroe to our staff,” Pierson said. “Kelsie joins us with two years of experience as the pitching coach at Azusa Pacific University. As an accomplished pitcher at Bakersfield, she bring experience, tenacity and knowledge to our pitching staff.
“She was a crafty pitcher herself and knows how to get batters out. She works well with different styles of pitchers and I look forward to her developing out young staff.”
As a senior in 2015, Monroe was the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Year and led the conference in ERA (2.93). She set CSU-Bakersfield single-season records in wins (16), complete games (21), strikeouts (125) and shutouts (6). Upon graduation, Monroe owned Bakersfield’s top career mark in seven categories, including wins (36), complete games (50), innings pitched (556.2), strikeouts (355) and shutouts (8).
Monroe threw the only solo no-hitter in CSU-Bakersfield history on March 24, 2015 against Cal Poly. She was an NFCA West All-Region third team selection and earned WAC All-Tournament team distinction as a senior.
Monroe graduated from Los Banos High School in central California in 2011, where she earned first-team all-conference, all-section and pitcher of the year honors as a senior.
