Katie Cochran begins her second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Grand Canyon University softball team, her responsibilities include working with the outfielders and assisting with hitting instruction.
Cochran had a storied collegiate career at Arizona State and has continued on to play at a high level internationally.
A member of Team USA, Cochran won a gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and played on the 2010 World Championship team.
Graham Hays wrote in a report on ESPN.com: “If there is a face of the new generation (of Team USA softball) …. it is (Katie) Cochran.”
She is a four-time All-America choice and the only player in Pac-10 history to be selected player of the year three times and also earn the league’s newcomer of the year award.
She is ASU’s career leader in batting average (.445), home runs (69, sixth in Pac-10 history), RBI (230, tied for 10th in Pac-10 history), hits (315, 11th in Pac-10 history) and doubles (54, 10th in Pac-10 history). She holds Sun Devils single-season marks in batting average (.492, 2007), home runs (20, 2009), hits (92, 2007), doubles (19, 2008) and intentional walks (29, 2008; an NCAA record).
Cochran was also selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch draft in 2009.
