Christi Musser joined the Grand Canyon softball staff as an assistant coach in June 2015, bringing a wealth of experience both on the field and in the dugout. Entering into her sixth season with Grand Canyon in 2021, Musser serves as the hitting coach for the Lopes and works with GCU’s outfielders.
Under Musser the Lopes hit .269 as a team in 2020 collecting 103 RBI and 10 home runs in 27 games played.Â
In 2019, Musser was part of a staff that earned the first Division I era victory over a nationally No. 1 ranked team of any program at GCU, as the Lopes defeated No. 1 Florida State, 5-3, on March 6 at GCU Softball Stadium. GCU went on to tally its eighth 30-win season with a 33-24 record.Â
Musser coached First Team All-WAC outfielder Laynee Gomez and First Team All-WAC infielder Bianca Boling in 2018, who ranked third and fourth in the WAC for batting average, respectively. Musser also guided Second Team All-WAC hitter Niki Gonzalez, who led the Lopes with 13 homeruns, 18 doubles and 52 RBI on the season.
Musser helped the Lopes tally a total of 293 RBI in 2018, compared to 276 in her first season. GCU hit 96 doubles, 14 triples and 41 home runs in its most recent campaign to record a team batting average of .316.
Musser's first collegiate coaching position came at her alma mater, Kansas, from 2003 to 2010. She assisted the Jayhawks on the field as a hitting instructor and served as recruiting coordinator during her tenure. She then joined the staff at New Mexico in July 2010 and enjoyed a successful three-year run that included serving as the hitting instructor for a Lobo squad that, in 2012, led the nation with 96 home runs.Â
For one year, Musser served as the New Mexico state director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
As a player, Musser was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American in 2002. The honor came at the end of a stellar career that included four All-Big 12 selections. During her high school career, Musser's squad won the 1998 national title as voted by USA Today, part of a run that included four state titles.Â
