Jerome Garrison is a native of Phoenix, Arizona, who graduated from Mountain Pointe High School prior to becoming a student and basketball player at Grand Canyon. Garrison competed as a four-year GCU starter while completing his undergraduate degree in education. As a student-athlete, Garrison assisted the Lopes program’s transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. Garrison won individual awards while leading GCU to a 74-46 record over his four-year collegiate career. Garrison left a mark on the campus and community and ranks 12th on the all-time GCU scoring list with 1,265 career points.
After graduation, Garrison signed to play with a professional basketball club in Madrid, Spain. Garrison’s playing career was cut short due to his mother's health complications. Upon returning to the U.S., Garrison embarked on a six-year journey in secondary education, serving as athletic director of Imagine Avondale and Glendale Prep for three years each. Although these were two different stops, the mission was the same — impact lives and leave it better than you found it. Garrison’s passion led him to drive capital sponsorships, facility improvements, campus collaboration, increased participation and state recognition awards at each school.
This passion for education and sports eventually led him to the collegiate level in 2022, when he joined GCU's staff. He now serves as Director of Student-Athlete Development for GCU Athletics. In this role, he is the academic coordinator for the men’s basketball team and supports Lopes for Life programming while providing oversight and support to student-athlete development staff. Garrison completed his MBA from GCU in the spring of 2025 and plans to continue his education.
