Geordie Hackett was named Grand Canyon's Director of Sports Medicine in September 2015 after previously serving as Head Athletic Trainer since 2005. He oversees the medical coverage for men’s basketball.
He started GCU’s first organized strength and conditioning program in 2007 and designed year-round programs for many of its athletic teams. Hackett implemented the platform Fusionetics into his injury prevention philosophy in 2014. He recently received his Contemporary Cupping Methods certification through the International Cupping Therapy Association
Hackett, who holds advanced MS, ATC, CSCS degrees, started his education at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., where he majored in athletic training and minored in psychology while playing three years on the Pride soccer team. After earning his athletic training certification, he became the head athletic trainer at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. He subsequently accepted the same position at The Kings School in Stamford, Conn.
Hackett came to Arizona for his master’s degree in Sports Healthcare at Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa. While there, he performed clinical rotations at the Chicago Cubs’ minor league facility, Scottsdale Community College, Arizona Rattlers and STI Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation, and volunteered at Arizona State’s spring football practice. After graduate school, he was hired as an athletic trainer by STI, where he worked with the Phoenix Caliente women’s professional football team and the Phoenix Talons men’s amateur football team.
While he no longer plays soccer, Hackett remains competitive by racing mountain bikes. He finished 20th in the nation in 2014 in Cat1 Men’s Expert for his age class. He and his wife, Laura, have two daughters: Morgen and Mackenzie.
