Darius DeAveiro is in his first season with the Grand Canyon men’s basketball program in 2026-27, serving as a graduate assistant.
DeAveiro joins the Lopes after spending the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he worked as a video coordinator for the team’s offense, defense and individual player development.
Before beginning his coaching career, DeAveiro played four seasons at Valparaiso, mostly under current GCU assistant coach Matt Lottich who was the Beacons head coach. The guard appeared in 120 games with 56 starts, totaling 500 points, 385 assists, 293 rebounds and 123 steals. His 385 career assists ranked sixth in Valparaiso history and were the program’s most by a player since 2004.
DeAveiro enjoyed his best statistical season as a junior in 2023-24, starting all 32 games and averaging 7.9 points, 5.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds. His 170 assists were the third most in a season in program history, ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference and placed him among the top 30 nationally. He recorded five or more assists in 20 games and posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
During his senior season, DeAveiro recorded 97 assists and averaged 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds while helping lead the Beacons. He also played alongside former Lope Isaiah Shaw at Valparaiso.
A native of Kanata, Ontario, Canada, DeAveiro attended Orangeville Prep and helped his team win three consecutive Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association championships from 2018 to 2020. He was named the academy’s defensive player of the year in 2020, earned first-team all-state recognition at the 2019 Canadian National Championships and represented Canada at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup.
DeAveiro’s father, David, previously served as the head men’s basketball coach at McGill University in Montreal.
