Carlon Brown completed his first season on the Grand Canyon men's basketball staff as a graduate assistant in 2019-20.
Brown brings with him an extensive high-level basketball career, spanning college stops at Utah and Colorado and professional stints in the D-League, Israel and Germany as well as a one-month stretch in training camp with the Golden State Warriors.
The Riverside, California, native officially retired from playing on Feb. 14, 2019.
While at GCU, Brown is pursuing his Master's degree in Psychology with an Emphasis in Health.
Starting his collegiate career in Salt Lake City with the Utes, Brown was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention. He started 63 of the 67 games during his freshman and sophomore seasons with scoring averages increasing from 4.4 to 9.3 to 12.6 points. Brown racked up a career-best 31 points as a junior at Wyoming on Jan. 27, 2010.
Brown transferred to Colorado, where he played his final season after a redshirt year. Putting together the best season of his career, Brown helped lead the Buffaloes during their first year of membership in the Pac-12 and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in nine years. He racked up some major awards including All-Pac-12 second team, Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and Pac-12 All-Tournament team. He again averaged 12.6 points to lead the team on 44.7% shooting. Brown had
a windmill dunk in the Pac-12 Tournament rank as No. 4 on SportsCenter. He replicated the notoriety with a breakaway tomahawk dunk in an NCAA Tournament win over UNLV that appeared in the tournament's "One Shining Moment" montage.
Following the conclusion of his college career, Brown signed with the Golden State Warriors and spent one month in the team's training camp. He spent the 2012-13 season with the NBA D-League's Santa Cruz Warriors and Idaho Stampede, compiling a season that earned him third-team D-League rookie honors.
Brown spent the 2013-14 season playing abroad with Israeli team Hapoel Tel Aviv, where he led the league in scoring with 19.6 points per game.
He moved to Germany for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The first year, he played four games for Brose Baskets before his season was cut short due to injury. In the following year, he signed with ratiopharm Ulm and averaged 6.5 points in eight games.
Outside of the gym, he enjoys playing golf and finding the best plant-based restaurants from city to city. His career goal is to become a head coach or to get into the sports psychology field.
Brown graduated from Colorado with a sociology degree in 2012. He is married to his wife, Cassie, and has one son, Camar.
