Jake Lindsey is in his third season on the Grand Canyon men's basketball staff for 2024-25, being named as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023 after serving as the program's director of player personnel in his first season in 2022-23.
Lindsey has been a key member of a Lopes coaching staff that has made back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament, highlighted by the program's first victory in 2024 with a win over fifth-seeded Saint Mary's.
In his first season on the Lopes staff, GCU made an impressive run through the 2023 WAC Tournament by winning four games in four days as the No. 5 seed to become the lowest seeded team to win the WAC Tournament since 2001. The Lopes made their second ever NCAA Tournament appearance and were paired up against Gonzaga.
The Lopes won 24 games and broke the school’s Division I-era records for offensive efficiency and 3-point accuracy, per KenPom. This included knocking down 45 total 3s in their four conference tournament victories.
Lindsey came to GCU after working for the Utah Jazz organization for three seasons. He was most recently Utah's coordinator of college scouting after a two-year stint as a basketball operations intern and basketball operations assistant. With the Jazz, Lindsey was involved in coordinating scouting logistics, developing scouting reports and traveling to evaluate potential draft prospects. Additionally, Lindsey helped assist with on-court draft workouts, pre-draft interviews and draft day processes.
Prior to joining the Jazz, Lindsey played collegiately for Baylor under Lopes head coach Bryce Drew's older brother, Scott. In Lindsey’s four seasons as a part of the program, he was a member of three NCAA tournament teams. This run included the program’s first team to ever achieve a No. 1 ranking in the AP Top-25 Poll in 2016-17, where Baylor started the season 15-0 and went on to reach the Sweet 16.
Lindsey ranked in the top five in assist-to-turnover ratio in the Big 12 each season from 2016 through 2018. In 2017-18 he led the conference with a 2.8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio while ranking in the top 10 in the Big 12 in assists. Lindsey made 18 starts during his playing tenure prior to medically retiring before the 2018-19 season, which he spent as a graduate assistant with the Baylor program.
Lindsey graduated cum laude in August 2018 with a degree in finance from Baylor. In May 2022, Lindsey earned a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Kansas.
Prior to Baylor, Lindsey was a four-year varsity letterwinner in high school and a three-time all-state nominee in the state of Utah. He averaged 24.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.9 steals during his senior season and was the No. 3-ranked recruit in the state’s 2015 recruiting class according to ESPN. While in high school, he played on a team that won the 2014 LeBron James Skills Academy, which featured 35 future NBA players and also participated in 2014 Kevin Durant Skills Academy.
Lindsey's passion for building relationships and developing players on and off the court was fostered by his tenure with Jazz, which began with working for his father, Dennis, who was general manager and then vice president of basketball operations for the Jazz from 2012 to 2021. Prior to the Jazz, Dennis worked with the San Antonio Spurs for five seasons and the Houston Rockets for 11 seasons. Dennis was also on the Houston Rockets staff when it drafted Bryce Drew 16th overall in 1998.
Lindsey and his wife, Tiger, reside in Scottsdale with their son, Dawson, who was born in April 2022.
