Justin Gemoll is in his second season as a member of the GCU Baseball coaching staff in 2019, serving as the Lopes' volunteer assistant coach. Gemoll works closely with GCU's catchers while serving as a hitting instructor.
In Gemoll's first season with the club, the Lopes claimed their second straight Western Athletic Conference regular season title after winning all eight conference series. GCU hit .328 as a team during conference play, a mark which led the WAC.
Gemoll spent the previous three seasons as the manager of the Idaho Falls Chukars, a Pioneer League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. In his first season at the helm, Gemoll led the Chukars to an appearance in the Pioneer League Championship. The following year, the Chukars posted the best record in the league's southern division.
In 2017, Gemoll was selected by the Pioneer League to manage the league's All-Stars in its annual bout against the Northwest League All-Stars in Hillsboro, Ore.
The last three seasons in Idaho Falls marked the tail end of an 11-year career as a coach in the Royals organization. Prior to his managerial stint, Gemoll was the bench coach for the Class-A Advanced Wilmington Blue Rocks. Gemoll coached in the Royals system from 2007-2017.
During his time with the Royals, Gemoll contributed to the professional development of a number of top Kansas City prospects including Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Salvador Perez, Christian Colon, Wil Myers, Jarrod Dyson, Terrance Gore and Raul Mondesi Jr.
Gemoll played professionally with the Royals as well, anchoring the second and third base positions defensively. He spent seven seasons in the club's system including one year at Triple-A Omaha. Gemoll appeared in 120 games for Omaha in 2005, hitting .261 with 8 home runs. His best year statistically came in 2002 where he hit .310 at the Class-A Advanced level.
As a 14th Round selection in the 2000 MLB Draft, Gemoll's pro career spanned 2000-2006. He collected numerous accolades during his career including Midwest League Player of the Week (2001), Carolina League Postseason All-Star (2002), Texas League All-Star (2003) and the Omaha Royals Hustle Award (2005). Gemoll posted a five-hit game in 2002, tying the Wilmington Blue Rocks team record. He also led the 2004 Wichita Wranglers in batting average.
Collegiately, Gemoll started his career at UC Santa Barbara before transferring to USC. In his four-year college career, he never hit worse than .300.
As a senior in the USC baseball program in 2000, Gemoll and the Trojans advanced to the College World Series after winning the Fullerton Regional and the Atlanta Super Regional. On that team, Gemoll led the club with a .374 batting average and a .708 slugging percentage. He had 19 doubles and 18 home runs to go along with 67 RBIs. For his efforts, Gemoll was named an ABCA All-American, first team All-Pac 10 and Team MVP in 2000 alone.
With the Gauchos, Gemoll was a team captain during his sophomore season in 1998 and also named the team's MVP. He was an All-Big West Honorable Mention selection that season as well. In 1997, alongside future MLB All-Star and Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito, Gemoll was named the UCSB Co-Freshman of the Year.

Gemoll graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from USC in 2001. He went on to earn an MBA with honors from University of Phoenix. He finished his MBA with a 3.92 GPA and was a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honors Society.
Gemoll resides in Surprise, Ariz. with his wife, Jenn, and three children, Samantha, Gavin and Jaxon.
