Join the Thundering Heard Pep Band
Thank you for your interest in becoming part of GCU’s Thundering Heard Pep Band — the heart and energy of Lope Nation! We’re excited that you’re considering joining our passionate community of musicians who bring gameday spirit to life.
Step 1: Apply to GCU
Your journey begins with applying for admission to Grand Canyon University. This is your first step toward joining the Thundering Heard and representing the spirit of the Lopes.
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA
Financial aid opportunities are available for eligible students. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to explore scholarship and aid options.
Step 3: Complete the Interest Form
Tell us you’re ready to make some noise! Complete the Thundering Heard Interest Form so we can get to know you and connect you with upcoming opportunities.
Step 4: Complete the Audition Process
The audition process is done via video submission. Prospective band members will be required to submit three videos as described below. Submission must be in the form of an unlisted YouTube video link, a Google Drive link, or an iCloud file link. Once you have the links ready, click on the audition submission form below.
- 1 x short selection of the applicant's choice (maximum five minutes)
- 2 x excerpts prescribed by GCU (view here)

If selected, freshmen band members get a $1,500 scholarship that is subject to cap. Band members are required to register for:
- MEN-336 - Pep Band
- MAP-201 - Private Lessons for Instrument
Scholarships increase with time served or if serving in a leadership position.
Band Camp will begin on Aug. 14, 2026.
