Grand Canyon utility playerÂ
Emily Gonzalez earned Mountain West Player of the Week after a barrage of offense was put on display at the Purple Classic.

Gonzalez, who was a 2025 first team all-conference player in her first Lopes season at Grand Canyon, also won WAC Tournament MVP for her offensive numbers and a memorable extra-inning, go-ahead home run in the championship game to send GCU to its fourth straight NCAA Tournament.
With large expectations heading into her senior season, the first baseman and designated player from Yucaipa, California, was off to a slower start than expected, hitting .194 through two weeks.
"Gonzo" went nuclear in the third week of the season, putting any doubt to rest that the Preseason All-Mountain West player was back.
A .625 batting average and .684 on-base percentage in the Lopes' six games from Thursday to Sunday helped GCU to its third consecutive undefeated week.
On top of the averages, Gonzalez hit three home runs over the six-game span, including two in a 9-0 win over mid-major power North Florida.
In the first four games, Gonzalez produced multiple hits in each contest, including a 3-for-3 Friday game against Montana.
After the incredible week of play, Gonzalez sits at a .340 batting average and at a tie with
Jada Cooper and
Alina Satcher for the team lead in home runs at four each.Â
Gonzalez and Grand Canyon moved to 16-0 to be one of five undefeated teams in the country. Softball America ranked the Lopes at No. 23 Monday, with optimism that other national polls will follow suit in the coming days.
