Grand Canyon freshman outfielder
Tanner Johns was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Monday following a pair of standout performances against Oklahoma State.
Johns hit .571 (4 for 7) in two starts against the Cowboys, finishing the week with a .625 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage. He scored three runs and drove in three RBIs while batting fifth in the lineup for both appearances.
The Las Vegas native's four hits ranked second on the team for the week despite playing just two games, and he led the Lopes in batting average and on-base percentage among players with multiple starts.
Johns opened the series with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double and two runs in the Lopes' Thursday night victory. He followed with another RBI on Saturday.
The weekly honor marks the first MW recognition of Johns' collegiate career and the first weekly honor for any GCU baseball player in the MW era.
