Grand Canyon's Mountain West home debut was spoiled Saturday night by Colorado State, which used a dominant, second-half opening to lead big and hold off the Lopes for a 70--60 win at Global Credit Union Arena.
Coming off a 12-day break, the Lopes (8-5, 1-1 MW) led 8-7 and never again as the Rams (10-4, 1-2 MW) pur four starters in double-digit scoring. With an overflow crowd of 7,332 fans, GCU took its second home loss of the season after being beaten once at home over the previous two seasons.

Makaih Williams scored a season-high 22 points off the bench with 17 of them coming in the second half. He went 7 for 15 from the field, 3 for 9 on 3-pointers and 5 for 7 on free throws while adding five rebounds.
During a second-half stretch, Williams was the only Lopes player to score over nearly 12 minutes.
Key moment
A late second-half GCU run had put the Lopes in a better position, when the Colorado State was reduced to three points before Rams power forward Carey Booth ended the first-half scoring with one of his 3-pointers.
Colorado State opened the second half with a 21-2 run, including 16 unanswered points to take its largest lead (56-31) with 12:33 to go.
