Arizona's Family established as Official Home of GCU Athletics with unprecedented statewide exposure
Grand Canyon University and Gray Media announced a new television partnership that will establish Arizona's Family as the Official Home of GCU Athletics and deliver unprecedented coverage of the Lopes free over the air on KTVK (3TV), KPHO (CBS 5) and KPHE (Arizona's Family Sports).
The broadcast package will spotlight home games for GCU men's and women's basketball while also including select baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball home games. The partnership will officially launch on Friday, Aug. 29, when GCU opens its volleyball season against Long Island at 7 p.m. in front of a capacity, student-heavy crowd at Global Credit Union Arena to cap off the university's move-in week with Lope-A-Palooza.
GCU will be the first university to join a growing live sports lineup on Arizona's Family that includes the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Rising and Arizona Interscholastic Association.
"We are thrilled to partner with Arizona's Family to provide unprecedented access to GCU Athletics across the Valley and the state," GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said. "This partnership places our programs alongside Arizona's most prominent sports brands while ensuring our games are available free to fans in nearly 2.8 million households. It is an incredible opportunity to showcase the energy of GCU and connect even more deeply with our community, alumni and the state's sports fans."
All three of Arizona's Family's linear channels are available free over-the-air in Phoenix, while also holding wide-ranging carriage on Cox, Dish, DIRECTV, FuboTV and more. 3TV and CBS 5 are premier, longtime anchors in local Phoenix television. The third channel, Arizona Family's Sports, launched in 2023 and has statewide carriage from Phoenix (Ch. 44) to Flagstaff (Ch. 32) to Tucson (Ch. 13.3) to Yuma (Ch. 27) and beyond to reach nearly 2.8 million households.
"We are excited to welcome Grand Canyon University to the family," said Debbie Bush, Vice President and General Manager of Arizona's Family. "The appetite for free, live, local sports continues to grow and to be able to offer even more men's and women's sports, now in the collegiate space, is a win-win for fans across Arizona."
Since securing the rights to Suns and Mercury games in 2023, Arizona's Family has become the local leader in live sports. Following the move to Arizona's Family, ratings for Suns games nearly doubled for the 2023-24 season, underscoring the appetite for accessible local sports coverage.
The agreement between GCU and Arizona's Family complements the Mountain West's media rights deal. The conference's national television partners, CBS and FOX, have the first opportunity to select GCU's games for national viewing on CBS, FOX, CBS Sports Network and FS1. Any games not selected for national television will stream for free on Mountain West Network and be eligible for local broadcast clearance on Arizona's Family.
With Arizona's Family becoming the Official Home of GCU Athletics, the partnership will extend beyond just live games. In addition to live coverage, GCU's games may also air on tape delay and as re-broadcasts. GCU Athletics will continue to be featured on 3TV's The Extra Point, Phoenix's only nightly local sports show. GCU will also be featured monthly on 3TV's Your Life Arizona and other Arizona's Family programming.
With the Phoenix market among the nation's largest and fastest growing, the partnership gives GCU Athletics a powerful platform to showcase its programs, engage its fan base and expand its reach to alumni, students and fans across the region.
