Lopes travel to Orem for 1st WAC series

Grand Canyon hits the road for the first time in 2025, as the journey for a fourth consecutive WAC title begins in Orem, Utah.

GCU sophomore second baseman Savannah Kirk was named WAC Player of the Week award for Week 5. She was ranked as the 10th-best second baseman in the nation via Softball America. She ranks eighth in the country in hits (40) and fifth in stolen bases (23).
Lopes senior pitcher Meghan Golden has started the season on fire. She ranks fourth in the nation in ERA and seventh in the nation in WHIP. Golden has thrown 31 consecutive scoreless innings coming into the weekend, dating back to Feb. 7.
Grand Canyon was ranked as the best mid-major team via D1 Softball for the second week in a row. They received votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (26th), and ESPN/USA Softball (29th) polls. GCU is riding an eight-game winning streak.

This will be the 34th-36th matchups between GCU and UVU, with the all-time record in favor of GCU at 29-4. The Lopes won the last meeting, 4-0, in last year's WAC Tournament semifinals.
The Wolverines are 7-13 on the season with a 1-2 conference record. Utah Valley took one game last weekend in their series against California Baptist in Riverside. UVU went 0-5 in the Littlewood Classic that took place in Phoenix and Tempe during Week 2.
Utah Valley is hitting .260 with a team ERA of 5.30.
UVU infielder Megan Gibbs leads the way offensively for the Wolverines. She holds a .500 on-base percentage with four home runs and 10 RBI.

Purple Classic

The Lopes went 4-0 over the past weekend at the Purple Classic in Phoenix.
GCU defeated Saint Joseph's, San Diego, UNLV and Penn. The Lopes extended their winning streak to eight games, sweeping the last two weekends of play.
The Lopes only allowed seven runs over the four games.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes host 11th-ranked Arizona on Wednesday evening at GCU Softball Stadium. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., when the Lopes look for their ninth consecutive home win and first-ever victory against the Wildcats.
