As Grand Canyon heads to Las Vegas on a mission to repeat winning the WAC Tournament title, it already repeated other postseason glory.
The Lopes puts a pair of players on the All-WAC first team and three GCU players on the All-WAC first and second teams for the second consecutive season.
Senior power forward
JaKobe Coles and graduate swingman
Tyon Grant-Foster made the Lopes the only team with multiple players on All-WAC first team. GCU is the first program to have a pair of All-WAC first-team honorees in consecutive seasons since New Mexico State did it in 2014-16.
Conference coaches also voted junior center
Duke Brennan to the All-WAC second team, giving GCU three of the conference's top 10 players.
Brennan and GCU senior guard
Collin Moore also were honored on the All-WAC Defensive Team, the first time two Lopes made that team, and graduate forward
Lök Wur became GCU's first Sixth Player of the Year winner for his work off the bench this season.
"I'm really proud of them," Lopes head coach
Bryce Drew said. "I think they worked really hard to achieve it. There's no one who gets that award without their team and their teammates with how much they helped them to get there. I like our guys' mindset. They were very thankful for their teammates."
GCU (23-7), who play UT Arlington at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a WAC Tournament quarterfinal in Las Vegas, have boasted an All-WAC first-team honoree for five consecutive seasons under Lopes fifth-year head coach
Bryce Drew.
Coles is having a career-best season with his first four career double-doubles and nine of his career's top 14 scoring performances coming this season for GCU.
The TCU transfer from Denton, Texas, is averaging career per-game bests in points (14.3), rebounds (5.9), assists (2.3), steals (1.2) and blocked shots (0-.8). He has made a career-best 51.7% of his field goals while being the only Lopes player besides senior guard
Ray Harrison to start all 30 games.
This season, Coles also has posted the best two assist games of his career and nine of his top 10 rebounding games. He set career highs for points (26) and rebounds (13) in the season opener against Cal State Fullerton.
Grant-Foster repeated on the All-WAC first team despite missing eight games this season, including the last five of the regular season.
The native of Kansas City, Kansas, had a midseason offensive turnaround and averaged 17.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.9 blocked shots per game since Jan. 1. In those 10 games before his Feb. 15 injury, Grant-Foster was shooting 53.2% from the field.
After winning WAC Player of the Year last season, Grant-Foster has improved on that season's averages for rebounds (6.2), assists (2.1), steals (1.9) and blocked shots (1.6) this season.
Duke Brennan
All-WAC second team, WAC All-Defensive Team
Brennan, who is from Chandler, Arizona, ranked third in the WAC with nine double-doubles this season after having two previously in his career.
The 6-foot-10 center ranks 18th nationally for rebounds per game (9.5) and offensive rebounds per game (3.4) while posting other career-high averages for points per game (10.7), field goal percentage (65.9%) and free throw percentage (63.2%). His shooting clip would rank fifth nationally but his 4.3 made field goals per game are shy of the NCAA qualifying standard of 5.0.
This season, Brennan has recorded his first four games of 15 rebounds or more. With the top tally being 26, each of those four games came in 27 or fewer minutes of action.
Lök Wur
WAC Sixth Player of the Year
After making a career breakthrough last season, Wur's game took another step forward this season with career highs in every per-game category – 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocked shots, 1.1 steals and 0.8 assists in 22 minutes per game. He also shot a career-best 35.6% from 3-point range.
The native of North Omaha, Nebraska, appeared is one of four Lopes players to appear in all 30 games, coming off the bench for 26 of them.
Wur made a game-winning shot against Saint Louis, had his first career double-double against Southern Utah and set a career scoring high with 20 points against Chicago State.
Moore earned a spot on the All-WAC Defensive Team for a second consecutive season after an uptick in steals and blocked shots. With 177 career steals, Moore averaged 1.9 steals and 0.8 blocked shots per game as a 6-foot-4 guard.
The native of North Little Rock, Arkansas, set his career high for steals (six) two weeks ago against UT Arlington and also matched his career high for blocked shots twice this season (three vs. California Baptist and Saint Louis.
Moore also averaged 8.0 points and 3.4 rebounds this season and is shooting a career-best 38% from 3-point range.
