After two run-rule victories and a two-run loss to No. 3 Florida last week, Grand Canyon sits at 12-3 and is making a name for itself across the country.
The major softball media outlets all recognized the Lopes' early-season success, including signature wins and close losses to top teams in the country.
GCU received three votes in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll, putting it at 32nd overall. This is recognized as the main poll by the NCAA. GCU received two votes at the conclusion of the 2024 season, marking the second time in program history. The Lopes also received votes twice in 2017.
In the National Fastpitch Coaches Association coaches poll, GCU received 15 votes to be at 28th overall. The main coaches poll includes first gave the Lopes votes last week.
GCU ranked fourth in the D1Softball Mid-Major Poll. All non-P4 teams are eligible for this top-25 poll. This is the first year that D1Softball has put out these rankings weekly.
The Diamond Sports Ranking ranked GCU at No. 22. The DSR system calculates its ranking with four inputs — win quality (31% of formula), win expectancy (30%), location (28%) and margin of victory (11%).
