Coles nets WAC Newcomer of the Week

GCU senior tallied 18 points, 3 steals in win vs. CBU
Grand Canyon senior power forward JaKobe Coles won WAC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after leading GCU to a Saturday night win against California Baptist.
Coles scored 18 points and added three rebounds, three steals and two assists in the Lopes' 66-64 victory against the Lancers at Global Credit Union Arena. He made 7 of 14 shots from the field, 1 of 2 from 3-point range and 3 of 4 at the free throw line to record his 10th consecutive double-digit scoring game, his longest streak of scoring 10 or more in his career.
The 6-foot-8 native of Denton, Texas, is having a career season at GCU after transferring from TCU last summer. Coles is averaging career bests in points (14.1), rebounds (5.7), assists (2.2), steals (1.1) and blocked shots (0.8) while shooting a career-best 51.5% from the field.
With GCU leading scorer Tyon Grant-Foster out hurt for Saturday's game, Coles' role grew in touches and opportunities. He won the WAC Newcomer of the Week award previously on Nov. 11, when he also was WAC Player of the Week.
"I play the game," Coles said. "If my team needs me to do more, I'll do more. If my team needs me to be in more of a selective role and do little things, I'm going to do that."
