Emilio Barreras was named WAC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 24.
The Lopes' leadoff hitter has had a scorching hot start to the season including this five-game week where he hit .632 (12 for 19) with five RBIs.
Barreras helped lead GCU to four victories over Big Ten opponents on the week, beginning with a 3-1 win over No. 23 Nebraska on Monday and continuing with three wins against Rutgers.
His impressive numbers on the week included a .789 slugging percentage and .708 on-base percentage. He hit his second career home run and drew five walks. He had three hits in three of the week's games and two hits in another game.
Barreras raised his season totals to a .500 batting average and is tied for sixth nationally with 15 hits. He is keying a Lopes' offense that has accumulated 83 hits to rank 17th in the country.
