Defense stays on stingy string, helps Lopes pull away from Hatters
Grand Canyon trailed Stetson with 13 minutes remaining Tuesday night but then blew the game open with most of their scoring coming after that point for a 67-45 victory at Global Credit Union Arena.
The Lopes (5-3) used nine steals and shot 60% shooting after halftime to stave off a challenge from the Hatters, who posted the lowest GCU opponent scoring total since UT Rio Grande Valley lost 72-43 in February 2024.
GCU senior guard Jaden Henley set career highs for points (26) and steals (six) with five assists being one off his career best. Henley made 9 of 16 shots from the field and all seven of his free throws. He also grabbed four rebounds in his 33 minutes with a plus-minus of plus-20.
Henley recorded 18 points, four assists and four steals in the second half to help the Lopes open its lead. All of his points came in the game's final 9:09.
Graduate power forward Nana Owusu-Anane also set a career high with 15 rebounds and added 10 points.
