Nunez claims 3rd MW freshman honor

El Paso native now has 4 straight triple-doubles, 6 total on season
Grand Canyon setter/opposite freshman Bella Nunez earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the third time this season after turning two more triple-doubles during last week's matches against San Diego State and New Mexico.
The El Paso native had two-match totals of 32 kills, 40 assists, 25 digs and nine total blocks for 36.5 points across nine sets. Averaging 3.6 kills, 4.4 assists, 2.8 digs, 1.0 blocks and 4.1 points per set, Nunez showcased her all-around impact in both matches.
Nunez opened the weekend with 17 kills, 24 assists, 12 digs and five blocks while hitting .455 against San Diego State, handing the Aztecs their first loss of conference play this season.
Nunez's block contribution helped the Lopes set a single-match Division I-era program block record with 21 total.
She followed that performance with 15 kills, 16 assists, 13 digs and four blocks while hitting .343 against New Mexico.
Nunez now has six triple-doubles on the season, doubling the previous high of the Lopes' DI era.
