OREM, Utah – Grand Canyon's five-game winning streak ended in its first WAC road contest on Thursday night. The Lopes trailed Utah Valley for the final 33 minutes at UCCU Center and lost 72-64.
The Wolverines (10-6) became the first 2-0 team in WAC play by winning several hustle categories against GCU (11-5), including offensive rebounds, points off turnovers and shot-blocking to even the defending WAC champion's conference record at 1-1.
Key player

GCU swingman
Tyon Grant-Foster followed up his 23-point game Saturday with a 22-point game Thursday night at Utah Valley, where he scored 18 points in the second half.
Grant-Foster, a graduate, made 8 of 15 shots from the field, 1 of 3 beyond the 3-point arc and 5 of 7 free throws. He added eight rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals in 29 minutes.
Key moment
The Lopes rallied from a 13-point deficit early in the second half and narrowed Utah Valley's lead to 51-50 with 9:19 remaining, when Grant-Foster scored five consecutive GCU points. At that point, GCU stopped Utah Valley two more times but made consecutive turnovers to allow the Wolverines to have a 7-0 run that stretched their lead for good again.
Key statistics
Utah Valley outscored GCU 14-0 on points off turnovers in the first half, grabbed a Lopes opponent season-high 17 offensive rebounds in the game and blocked 10 GCU shots.
Quotable
GCU head coach
Bryce Drew: "They were much tougher than us. They were much hungrier than us. They wanted to win more than us. We knew coming on the road what a tough game this would be. They have the second-best record in our conference, had won multiple games in a row and were playing a really good rhythm. End of the day, everyone wants to beat us. When you come with the mentality that you're not just going to be that much better and more dominant that the team you're playing, the hungrier team and the team that wants to beat you more is going to win. It shows in the stat sheet. Seventeen offensive rebounds. Can't win. They had 10 blocks against us. Can't win. Unacceptable."
