Grand Canyon unveiled its 2024 fall schedule that includes a game apiece against Arizona State and Cal State Northridge and the traditional intrasquad Fall World Series.
The Lopes are coming off their best season at the Division I level, capturing their fourth consecutive WAC regular-season title and winning two games against top-25 opponents in the NCAA tournament. In
Gregg Wallis' third year as head coach, the Lopes will introduce a talented class of newcomers this fall ahead of the 2025 season that begins in mid-February.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Lopes will open fall play by hosting Arizona State at GCU Ballpark. Admission is free and open to the public for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
The Sun Devils went 32-26 a year ago. The two programs met twice last season with each team winning its home game. In an April 9 home victory over Arizona State, then-sophomore left-hander
Grant Richardson made a solid four-inning start on the bump and parlayed that success into grasping the role of Friday night ace for the remainder of the season.
The following Saturday, Nov. 9, GCU will welcome in CSUN for an 11 a.m. first pitch. Admission is again free at GCU Ballpark.
The Matadors also sat six games above the .500 mark last spring and posted a 16-14 mark in Big West action. The Matadors were a successful "small-ball" team, ranking fourth nationally with 55 sacrifice bunts and boasting a .981 fielding percentage that ranked eighth in the country. GCU and CSUN last met in March 2022 with each side winning one game of a midweek series at Brazell Field.
Per tradition, the Lopes will wrap their fall schedule with a three-game Fall World Series. As preparations begin at GCU Ballpark to ready the playing surface for January, the intrasquad series will take place Nov. 13-15 at Salt River Fields, the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. The games will be played on back fields and offer free admission with first pitch times around 4 p.m. each day.
