Grand Canyon women's soccer head coach
Chris Cissell announced that assistant coach
Blake Reynolds has been promoted to associate head coach.
This comes with just under a month to go until the start of the regular season for GCU. Reynolds is entering his second year on the Lopes' staff.
"Coach Reynolds is a phenomenal person and a wonderful coach," Cissell said. "He has done a tremendous job here at GCU in our awesome soccer family and has earned this prestigious honor and promotion. Blake shares our vision and helps cultivate a soccer family atmosphere within our team-first mentality."
In his career prior to GCU, Reynolds had amassed a 141-69-30 record at Fort Hays State, Kansas Wesleyan and Midland. He had coached 84 all-conference honorees, including six NAIA All-Americans.
"Blake has a wealth of overall soccer knowledge and experience," Cissell said. "He's been instrumental in helping us implement our team tactics and does a tremendous job in recruiting too."
Reynolds played a huge role in leading the 2023 GCU squad to the NCAA tournament, a feat that had only been accomplished one previous time in program history. This has served as the first true offseason of recruiting for Reynolds at GCU.
"I am humbled and honored to receive this title from Coach Cissell," Reynolds said. "It's truly a blessing. I love the home that I've found at GCU, and continuing to work alongside 'Ciss' and the rest of the amazing staff he's assembled here is just awesome. I look forward to continuing to grow the program and build upon the huge successes we've already had. I couldn't imagine a better place to do so."
Reynolds has the opportunity to lead the Lopes to their first-ever repeat WAC title in the team's last year in the conference before moving to the WCC. Official offseason training will begin at the end of July and regular season play kicks off Aug. 15 vs. Arizona at GCU Stadium.
