The Grand Canyon women's soccer program announced its 2024 schedule that will consist of an 18-match regular season, two exhibition matches and a WAC Tournament that begins Nov. 3 in Abilene, Texas.
The Lopes schedule is highlighted by 10 home matches at GCU Stadium, a trip to Hawaii for two neutral, regular-season matches and familiar foes.

GCU head coach
Chris Cissell returns for his fifth season leading the Lopes, looking to bring them back to the NCAA tournament after 2021 and 2023 appearances under his leadership.
"We are very excited for our entire awesome soccer family," Cissell said. "We feel like we have put together an extremely fun, challenging and competitive schedule that our players, families and Havocs will extremely enjoy. We are excited to play 10 matches in our amazing stadium and campus, with only eight road matches and two neutrals. It is a great schedule and we are so excited to get started here soon."
The Lopes will get their first game action in Chula Vista, California, where they face UC San Diego in an exhibition match on Aug. 6. The match will complete a five-day trip to Chula Vista, where the team will focus in on training and team building.
The second exhibition match will be against Arizona State on Aug. 10 at GCU Stadium. The Sun Devils finished their 2023 campaign at No. 57 in the RPI rankings, giving GCU an incredible opportunity to face great competition just days before the regular season kicks off.
The campaign begins officially on Aug. 15 with Arizona coming to town. An electric atmosphere is expected at GCU Stadium for the opener between the in-state foes. The teams tied 1-1 in Tucson last year. The Wildcats finished last season at No. 70 in the RPI in their final Pac-12 season. With the move to the Big 12, the Wildcats will join Arizona State and Utah as the three Big 12 opponents on the 2024 slate for GCU.
Utah will host the Lopes' first road match and the programs' first-ever meeting on Aug. 22 in Salt Lake City. The match will be sandwiched between home matches with Charleston Southern and Little Rock. Utah ended its season ranked No. 104 last season.Â
GCU may most be looking forward to the next set of games in Honolulu on Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 against North Dakota State and Air Force, respectively.
"The trip to Hawaii will be a phenomenal experience for our soccer family," Cissell said. "We are looking forward to the opportunity to continue to grow our team-first mentality and soccer family atmosphere and culture while traveling to Hawaii with our entire soccer program."
The couple of weeks following the Hawaii trip will wrap up the nonconference schedule. Highlights will be traveling to Loyola Marymount and Nevada as well as hosting Northern Arizona and Utah State. GCU beat LMU 2-1 at home last year. The Sept. 12 game at NAU will mark the first home match with students on campus, setting up for a big crowd.
Utah State will come to Phoenix 10 days later as a program coming off an NCAA tournament appearance. The Aggies were the Mountain West champions and finished at No. 12 in RPI rankings after losing to eventual College Cup Final Four team BYU in the NCAA tournament's first round.
GCU's final WAC schedule provides challenges with the season ending with four straight road games, including last season's WAC Tournament semifinal (Utah Valley) and championship opponents (Seattle U). This will cause for an early Senior Day on Oct. 6 vs. Tarleton State.
After a 5-1-3 record in WAC play a year ago, the Lopes look to position themselves as a top seed for the WAC Tournament. The tourney will take place at Abilene Christian on Nov. 3-9 and will decide the conference's NCAA tournament automatic bid.
Overall, GCU will face a schedule that balances home matches with tough road competition that will prepare the team for postseason competition. Last season, the Lopes posted a 7-1-4 record against opponents that appear on this year's schedule.
