Bogle, Holmer named to conference tournament team

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 17 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team closed out the season Friday after a Coastal Collegiate Sports Championship loss to fourth-seeded South Carolina in a 3-2 battle. The loss came after a Friday morning bout with LSU, which won 4-1 to send the Lopes to the conference tournament's elimination bracket.

GCU and LSU battled first this morning, when the No. 5 pair Madi Bogle and Regan Holmer were victorious, 21-17, 21-14.

In the No. 2 pair, Katie Keefe and Sarah Dickson took on the CCSA Pair of the Year and won the first set 21-19. In the second set, the LSU duo showed why they were selected for the conference honor with a 21-8 victory. In the third, GCU fell 15-11.

The Lopes also lost in the third flight in a three-set match after taking the second set.

In the second match of the day, GCU got off to a slow start against South Carolina, losing each of the first sets. The Lopes took the second set in four of the five flights, forcing third sets. Despite the push, only two of the four came out with victories. Jessica Drake and Mackenzie Harris ended their magnificent season on a dramatic 19-21, 22-20, 15-9 win. Bogle and Holmer won again, finishing the year 3-0 together and earning a spot as one of the CCSA All-Tournament pairs.

The loss marks the end of a season full of ups and downs, highlighted by the way the seniors Krista Rowan, Dickson and Harris gave everything to the program, including strong leadership alongside first-year head coach Abra Rummel, assistant coach Keone Coronado and volunteer assistant Anaya Evans.
