Grand Canyon's
Kristin Fifield earned WAC Player of Week after an outstanding opening weekend performance.
The Lopes began the 2024 season with a 33-14 scoring margin and four victories over Wisconsin, Maine, Weber State and St. Thomas. Fifield produced eight RBIs on six hits, including a three-run home run to left center in GCU's first inning against Maine on Friday and a season-high four RBIs versus St. Thomas on Saturday.
The 2023 national RBI leader also brought the go-ahead run home in the sixth inning versus Weber State. She concludes her first weekend at the plate with a .429 batting average, .643 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage.
After an all-star .992 fielding percentage in right field last year earned her a preseason Softball America Top 25 Outfielder ranking (No. 8), Fifield has moved to the infield as primarily a first baseman. So far, she has tallied 29 putouts, three double plays and two assists for a fielding percentage of .969.
GCU will host Memphis on Friday at 4 p.m. at GCU Softball Stadium to open its participation in the Littlewood Classic. Co-hosted with Arizona State, the tournament will also bring California, Virginia Tech, Illinois State and Cal State Fullerton to GCU to face the Lopes.
