Lopes keep nation's best record, move to 12-0 at home
Grand Canyon emerged from six days without a game looking energized and even sharper, taking a 21-point lead in the first half on its way to a 94-65 conference home blowout of Southern Utah on Saturday night. The Lopes continue to have the nation's best record at 22-2, which also is the best mark in program history after 24 games. GCU earned head coach Bryce Drew's 250th career victory by moving to 12-0 at Global Credit Union Arena with its largest victory margin against a Division I opponent since Opening Night.
GCU graduate point guard Jovan Blacksher Jr. went from four scoreless games to a 13-point first half that helped the Lopes to a 46-30 halftime lead. Blacksher finished with 18 points in 18 minutes on 6-of-7 shooting and made three steals. It was his highest scoring game against a Division I opponent since Nov. 29, 2022, against Alcorn State.
