That sound around the Grand Canyon men's basketball program is a buzz that has never heard been this loud in October.
GCU received votes in the preseason AP top 25 poll for the first time ever Monday, landing three voting points for the 24th-highest total among unranked teams. The Lopes finished eight spots outside of the final top 25 and ended at No. 50 in NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) last season, when they went 30-5 and made their first trip to the round of 32 at the NCAA Division I tournament.
With GCU returning five of its top six players, other outlets are taking note of the Lopes in preseason rankings:
- KenPom.com ranked the Lopes 54th, between Missouri and Miami.
- BartTorvik.com put GCU at No. 53 between VCU and Oklahoma.
- CBBReview.com slotted the Lopes at No. 49 between Clemson and North Carolina State.
- CollegeSportsMadness.com dropped GCU to No. 76 between Missouri and Saint Joseph's.
In the AP poll, the Lopes' three points put them even with Little Rock, just behind Louisville and UAB with four points each and just ahead of Arizona State, Princeton and San Diego State with two points apiece.

GCU senior guard
Tyon Grant-Foster is also drawing significant preseason attention after winning WAC Player of the Year and being a Lute Olson National Player of the Year finalist last season.
Bustingbrackets.com ranked Grant-Foster 41st nationally among returning players, writing, "The Grand Canyon Lopes are the top mid-major team to buy stock into this season. The return of
Tyon Grant-Foster is the key reason why."
Grant-Foster was identified as the fourth-best true wing nationally by 247Sports.com and the No. 11 senior by NCAA.com, which also ranked him as the No. 13 wing player among all classes.
"He should be primed for another great season as Grand Canyon looks to make its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance," NCAA.com wrote.
Grant-Foster, a 6-foot-7 guard from Kansas City, Kansas, was ranked No. 78 on ESPN/DraftExpress' NBA Draft Big Board, which put him 61st among college players.
"The physical, toolsy wing has turned into a true three-level scorer," 247Sports.com wrote. "He's simply one of the best isolation hoopers in the country. He's a brutal cover because you have to respect the jumper that he can uncork over just about anybody, but he waltzes onto the floor trying to get to the rim."
FloHoops called Grant-Foster a potential first-team All-American when ranking GCU second to Gonzaga in its Mid-Major Power Ranking.
