Grand Canyon basketball stars
Gabe McGlothan and
Tyon Grant-Foster have frequented the WAC's weekly award circuit this season, but each Lope claimed an honor this week for the first time.

McGlothan, the graduate power forward from nearby Gilbert, won this third WAC Player of the Week honor this season by leading the Lopes to two conference road wins that improved GCU to 14-1 with an 11-game winning streak. In games at Southern Utah and Utah Tech, McGlothan averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 steals with 77% shooting from the field. He also made 3 of 5 shots from 3-point range and 4 of 5 free throws.
McGlothan's 18-point, 10-rebound effort Thursday night at Southern Utah marked the 19th double-double of his career. He followed that by fueling a rally Saturday night at Utah Tech with 23 points, his 11th career 20-point game.
In addition to ranking 14th among active Division I players for career rebounds (910), McGlothan is this season's national leader in road field goal percentage (82.3%, 28 for 34) for players with at least 25 field goal attempts.
"He's been incredible," GCU head coach
Bryce Drew said after Saturday's win at Utah Tech. "The stretch of basketball that he's on right now is as good as anyone in the country with how efficient he is, the type of plays he's making and when he's making them. I'm really happy for him because he stuck with GCU all these years. He works extremely hard, and he's exactly what you want for a GCU student-athlete."

Grant-Foster, a senior guard from Kansas City, Kansas, claimed his fourth WAC Newcomer of the Week award of the season. After not playing for two years because of a heart condition, Grant-Foster ranks 12th nationally for scoring average (20.7) and 15th for free throws made (87).
Last week, Grant-Foster averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 steals in the Lopes' two road wins while fouling only twice in 65 minutes. He made 19 of 37 shots from the field and 7 of 9 free throws for his seventh and eighth 20-point games of his career. Prior to this season, Grant-Foster's career scoring high was 13 points for Kansas in December 2020.
In addition to winning four of this season's nine WAC Newcomer of the Week honors, Grant-Foster was also the WAC Player of the Week on Dec. 4.
GCU, which is No. 37 in NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rankings, will play its next three games at home. That starts with a Thursday night conference game against Abilene Christian at Global Credit Union Arena. The Lopes also received 35 voting points in this week's
AP Top 25 polling and 30 voting points in the
USA Today coaches poll.
