CEDAR CITY, Utah — Grand Canyon resumed conference play with its 10th consecutive win, a 96-75 victory at Southern Utah to move to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in WAC play.
Key player
GCU junior guard
Tyon Grant-Foster made 11 of 19 shots from the field for a game-high 27 points with five rebounds and a blocked shot. It is Grant-Foster's fifth game of 25 points or more this season.
Key moment
The Lopes opened the second half with every starter scoring on each of the first six possessions for a 56-42 lead that prompted a Southern Utah timeout. GCU allowed one made field goal on its last nine shots of the first half to take a 43-36 halftime lead that carried over into the second-half start
Key statistic
After getting outscored 42-16 on points in the paint against Louisiana Tech, GCU scored 56 in the paint at Southern Utah. The Lopes' 15-for-15 free throw shooting was mostly earned on action in the paint.
Quotable
GCU head coach
Bryce Drew: "I thought we came out in the second half and defended much better. I thought Ray (Harrison) made some big baskets in the middle there. Gabe (McGlothan) was just sensational pretty much the whole night, and then Tyon (Grant-Foster) was spectacular those last five minutes."
What's next?
The Lopes continue the Utah road trip by moving south to St. George, where GCU will play at Utah Tech on Saturday night. The Lopes swept the series with the Trailblazers last season.
