Softball America awarded Grand Canyon's
Kristin Fifield her first preseason All
-American honor after naming her to its Top 100 and Top 25 Outfielders lists last week.Â
Fifield was named to the preseason All-America second team, putting her among the 34 players in the nation who were honored on the All-America teams.
"What a phenomenal honor," Lopes head coach
Shanon Hays said. "There's no one that deserves it more than Kristin. Aside from being a really good athlete, she's a great teammate and an even better person off the field."
Fifield finished fifth nationally in home runs (21) and seventh nationally in doubles (19) while leading the nation in RBIs for 10 consecutive weeks last season. She also led t

he WAC in those categories to be listed as Softball America's preseason No. 34 player and No. 8 outfielder for her lights-out 2023 performance.Â
Last season, the graduate student starred for a 47-13 Lopes team and produced her most impressive stat line to date, setting the GCU Division I-era career RBIs record (185), GCU all-time career home run record (44) and GCU single-season home run record (21). She totaled 85 RBIs, 21 home runs, 19 doubles, a .346 batting average, a .467 on-base percentage, an .803 slugging percentage and a .992 fielding percentage. She also notched 21 multi-RBI games, 16 multi-hit games and a season-high hit streak of eight games.Â
On the morning of GCU's return to the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, where the Lopes knocked off No. 2 UCLA on May 19, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Fifield to the All-Region first team after she earned her third consecutive All-WAC first-team, WAC All-Defensive Team and WAC All-Tournament honors. Fifield assisted the Lopes to their second consecutive conference title with eight RBIs during the 2023 WAC Tournament, including a two-run home run in her four-RBI championship game.Â
Fifield won the 2022-23Â Joe Kearney Award as the WAC's top female student-athlete and was selected as an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. The NCAA Woman of the Year program honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes.Â
"I believe we have several athletes with the potential for All-American seasons this year, and we couldn't be more excited for Opening Day," Hays said.
The Lopes open their season on Feb. 9 with games against Wisconsin and Maine at GCU Softball Stadium.
