Softball America names GCU duo to Top 100

The preseason honors just keep rolling in for Grand Canyon's Kristin Fifield and Ashley Trierweiler, as Softball America awarded a pair of slots on its Top 100 and Top 25 Outfielders lists to the Lopes duo.

GCU is one of five teams, and the only mid-major institution, with two Top 25 outfielders. Fifield and Trierweiler are two of 15 student-athletes selected from mid-major programs on the Top 100 List.

Fifield is ranked as the No. 34 player and No. 8 outfielder after leading the nation in RBIs for 10 weeks last season. She showcased her utility with 85 RBIs, a .346 batting average, a .467 on-base percentage, 21 home runs, 19 doubles, an .803 slugging percentage and a .992 fielding percentage.

The El Paso, Texas, native claimed a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region first team, as well as her third All-WAC first-team honor and WAC All-Defensive Team and WAC All-Tournament selections after notching 16 multi-hit games, 21 multi-RBI games and a season-high hit streak of eight games.

The graduate student also set the GCU Division I-era career RBIs record (185), GCU all-time career home run record (44) and GCU single-season home run record (21) last season.

Trierweiler_Ashley_23-24

Meanwhile, Trierweiler is listed as the No. 41 player and No. 9 outfielder after achieving All-American status last season for Santa Clara. The senior transfer finished second among Division I players in batting average at .486 and third in on-base percentage at 584 to lead the West Coast Conference in those categories.

Trierweiler also topped the WCC in runs (50), hits (71), doubles (14), walks (34) and total bases (108) while setting conference records for batting average in a career (.440) and a season (.486).

Last season marked Trierweiler's third consecutive honor on All-WCC first team.

The center fielder posted a .984 fielding percentage, in addition to a 21-game hitting streak, 37-game on-base streak and 18 multi-hit games. She earn a spot on the D1Softball All-American second team, NFCA All-America third team, College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team and NFCA All-Region first team.

The Lopes softball season begins Feb. 9, when GCU hosts Wisconsin.
