All men's basketball home games air on FOX 10 Xtra for 5th straight season
Grand Canyon University and KUTP FOX 10 Xtra announced the enhancement and renewal of a continuing partnership to broadcast select GCU athletic events for the 2023-24 season.
In addition to GCU's men's basketball home games continuing to air on the station, GCU will be featured weekly in FOX 10's Sunday Sports Night show at 10:30 p.m. The weekly feature on FOX 10 Sports Night begins this Sunday with a sitdown interview with GCU president Brian Mueller.
The continuation of the agreement means GCU men's basketball will continue to be seen on Ch. 45 over the air and Ch. 9 on cable with a reach of nearly 2 million households in the Phoenix market. GCU's Dec. 5 home game against reigning national runner-up San Diego State at GCU Arena will air on FOX 10.
The agreement also features other GCU sports action with the women's volleyball home opener on Sep. 1 on FOX 10 Xtra in addition to two women's basketball games and two baseball games. The women's volleyball home opener against Long Island on Sep. 1 will feature an expected sellout crowd of over 7,000 GCU students as a part of Welcome Week festivities.
In Year 3 of the WAC's agreement with ESPN, home and away games also will be streamed online exclusively on ESPN+.
Â
"FOX 10 Xtra is proud to remain the broadcast home for Grand Canyon University Athletics and grow this partnership by further highlighting their sports program on 'FOX 10 Sports Night,' " Michael Lewis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of KSAZ FOX 10 and KUTP FOX 10 Xtra said.
The GCU men's basketball team is coming off of its second NCAA Tournament appearance in a three-year span. The Lopes are led by fourth-year head coach Bryce Drew and return All-WAC selections in junior guard Ray Harrison and senior forward Gabe McGlothan. GCU's roster has also been bolstered by a class of newcomers that includes transfers from Oregon, Arizona State, Louisville and more.
GCU will play 16 home regular-season games and one home exhibition, headlined by nonconference visits from fellow NCAA Tournament participants San Diego State and Southeast Missouri State. GCU will also host in-state foe Northern Arizona, renewing a longstanding series that has roots as far back as 1954. GCU will also host a pair of Conference USA opponents in former WAC member Sam Houston and Louisiana Tech.
The remaining home slate includes visits from all 10 WAC foes including an early conference game on Dec. 2 against UT Arlington. The WAC ranked 11th in conference strength out of 32 Division I conferences last year.
Â
"GCU has a phenomenal broadcast team with great broadcast partners that combine to create the best viewing experience possible for Lopes Nation across the globe," GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said. "We're thankful for the opportunity to deliver a piece of the GCU Arena game experience into the living rooms of our Lopes family."
Â
The entire broadcast team returns intact for 2023-24. Barry Buetel will again provide the telecasts' play-by-play with three-time NBA champion Scott Williams offering basketball analysis. Kate Longworth returns as a pregame/sideline reporter. All telecasts include a half-hour pregame show.
