Baseball returns to Mesa; men's, women's golf events move to Payson
Grand Canyon will get a chance to vie for three WAC championships in its home state with the conference announcing 2023-24 sites and dates for meets and tournaments other than basketball.
The WAC Baseball Tournament will be held crosstown in May at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium for the 10th consecutive time, while the WAC Championships for men's and women's golf will move to Payson, Arizona, for the first time in April.
After pursuing a fourth consecutive WAC regular-season baseball championship, GCU figures to be part of the eight-team WAC Tournament on May 21-25 at Hohokam, the spring training home of the Oakland A's.
The golf championship tournaments move to Arizona at The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines with all 11 members participating in the women's event on April 19-21 and the men's event on April 26-28, when GCU will defend its conference title from this year in Boulder City, Nevada.
The remainder of the conference champion venues will change from 2022-23, except for the WAC Swimming and Diving Championships returning to the Pharr (Texas) Natatorium near UT Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 28-March 2. In 2022-23, GCU won postseason conference championships in men's basketball, men's golf, men's indoor and outdoor track and field, softball and women's tennis.
WAC championship titles will be decided in seven states in 2023-24: Texas (six), Arizona (three), Nevada (three), Utah (three), New Mexico (two), California (one), Nevada (one) and Washington (one).
The dates and format for the WAC Basketball Tournaments will be announced later.
