Grand Canyon junior shortstop
Jacob Wilson added three more All-America selections to his resume, becoming a consensus All-American by landing on the lists of five major college baseball publications.
Wilson earned honors from:
- Collegiate Baseball - second team
- National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association - second team
- American Baseball Coaches Association / Rawlings - third team
- Baseball America - second team
- D1Baseball.com - third team
Wilson was named a preseason All-American by all five publications prior to the 2023 season and proved their preseason projections accurate by landing on all five publications'Â end-of-year lists.
Wilson's first ever All-American selectionÂ
came via Collegiate Baseball in early June and finished with a late June appearance on D1Baseball.com's list.
GCU's star shortstop was one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which goes to the nation's top player. He earned All-WAC first-team honors and was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Wilson is the second All-American in the program's Division I history. Lopes pitcher Pierson Ohl was also named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2019. Wilson's and Ohl's All-America selections are in a separate category from GCU's nine Division IÂ Freshman All-America honorees.
Wilson led the 37-21 Lopes with a .411 batting average. He also paced GCU in triples (four), RBIs (tied at 61) and slugging percentage (.635).
For the second consecutive season, Wilson was the nation's toughest batter to strike out. He did so just five times in 192 at bats (once per 38.4 at bats). His fifth and final strikeout of the season came on March 31, meaning the Thousand Oaks, California, native did not strike out in his final 97 at bats of the season.
Wilson also ranked in the nation's top 25 in batting average (11th, .411) and hits per game (24th, 1.61).
Wilson is also MLB.com's No. 10 draft prospect for the MLB Draft which gets underway on Sunday.
