Grand Canyon first baseman
Zach Yorke was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, adding to the resume following his standout rookie year.
Yorke's first season with the Lopes already includes being
named to the All-WAC second team and breaking the program's all-time record previously held by Los Angeles Angels Hall of Famer Tim Salmon for hits in a season by a freshman. He tied Salmon's all-time record for RBIs by a freshman. Yorke was also named WAC Hitter of the Week on May 8 following a 10-RBI week and a grand slam.
A native of Campbell, California, Yorke was third on the club with a .368 batting average and tied junior shortstop
Jacob Wilson for the team RBI lead with 61. He ranked second on the team with eight home runs.
Yorke becomes the sixth Freshman All-American in program history. Pierson Ohl was GCU's first in 2019. The trio of
Elijah Buries,
Carter Young and
Jacob Wilson all earned recognition in 2021, while
Daniel Avitia was recognized last year.
Yorke was one of four WAC honorees, joined by Sacramento State's Wehiwa Aloy and JP Smith along with Utah Valley's Daniel Dickinson.
