Grand Canyon swimming and diving head coach
Steve Schaffer has been elected to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America board.

Schaffer has coached the Lopes since 2008. Under his guidance, the program has made tremendous strides, going from fourth-place finishes by the men at the 2011 and 2013 Division II Championships to a Division I transition that lifted the program to being WAC contenders with Olympians on the roster.
Schaffer will occupy the board's at-large position, which is a two-year term that is eligible for up to three terms.
The CSCAA was founded in 1922 and was the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the organization is "to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development."
The board works alongside the CSCAAÂ executive director, who handles daily activities, in order to further its mission.
Schaffer has been involved with the CSCAA in the past. In 2017, Schaffer helped design a championship meet where the association received an exemption from the NCAA to extend the season for this postseason meet specifically. Each year, the meet has grown with top Power 5 programs among the participants.
Schaffer will continue to lead the program at GCU while taking on this new responsibility. The Lopes are coming off their best combined WAC Championship finish as a team.
