Two-time WAC softball champion Grand Canyon signed West Coast Conference all-time leading hitter Ashley Trierweiler to join the Lopes next season after ranking as the nation's No. 2 hitter this season.

Trierweiler, a 5-foot-11 center fielder, is a left-handed hitter who hit .486 for Santa Clara this season with a .584 on-base percentage, which ranks third nationally. Her four-year career batting average of .440 ranks fourth among active Division I players.
"I am just thrilled to have signed 'Tree,' " Lopes head coach
Shanon Hays said of Trierweiler. "She is the perfect addition to an already powerful lineup, and I am so anxious to see her play in purple next year."
The four-year Santa Clara starter is a two-time All-WCC first-team selection and the 2021 WCC Defensive Player of the Year. This season, she led the Broncos in batting average (.486), home runs (7), and runs (50). The four-time WCC Player of the Week posted the most runs (50) and walks (34) by a Bronco since at least 2000, carrying a 21-game hit streak and a 37-game on-base streak this year.
In addition to hitting .440 as Santa Clara's leading hitter for four consecutive seasons, Trierweiler posted a .514 on-base percentage and a .577 slugging percentage over her four-year career. Her .481 batting average as a sophomore broke the program record for the first of two times.
The Belmont, California, native also displays dedication off the field as the co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Commitee, a 2023 valedictorian semifinalist and a student representative for Called Up, a local Christian athlete ministry.
"I'm super excited to be joining the GCU family," Trierweiler said. "Seeing what Coach Hays and his staff have done with the program over the last few seasons has been incredible, and I'm beyond thankful that God has given me this opportunity to play my fifth year and pursue my master's degree at Grand Canyon."
