Grand Canyon went on the road in the regular season's final week and won a pair of games at Southern Utah and Utah Tech. The Lopes' leading scorer in both efforts,
Ray Harrison, was selected as the WAC's final Player of the Week recipient of the season.
In a Wednesday win over No. 3-seeded Southern Utah, Harrison had 29 points for his second-highest output of the season. He did it on an efficient 10-for-16 shooting clip, pulling down nine rebounds and adding four assists.
"It starts with Ray," GCU head coach
Bryce Drew said following the win. "We've seen that all year. When Ray is good, we're good."
Harrison followed Wednesday's game up with another impressive performance at Utah Tech on Friday night. The sophomore tallied 25 points on another shooting performance over 50% from the field. He picked up five rebounds and seven assists.
In winning the award for the second time this season, Harrison combined for 54 points on 57.6% shooting with 14 rebounds and 11 assists. In what has become an ultra balanced conference, Harrison became the WAC's fifth player to tie for the lead with two WAC Player of the Week honors. He joined Aziz Bandaogo and Le'Tre Darthard (Utah Valley), Justin Johnson (UT Rio Grande Valley) and Riley Grigsby (Seattle U) with two of the weekly awards this season.
The Lopes closed the regular season with wins in four of their last five games and enter the WAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed,
paired with 12th-seeded UT Arlington in a first-round matchup on Tuesday at 3 p.m. (Phoenix time) in Las Vegas.
