Grand Canyon grabbed both the WAC's Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time in program history the conference announced on Wednesday.
Jacob Wilson was named WAC Hitter of the Week and
Zach Thornton was named Pitcher of the Week. Both players earned their respective honor for the second time this season.
Wilson had a 12-for-17 (.706) showing over the four-game week, racking up six runs scored, six RBIs, a double and two triples. He slugged 1.000 and had multiple hits in all four games including two three-hit games and, on Sunday, a four-hit game.
Wilson upped his season batting average to .439, a conference-leading mark that ranks inside the nation's top 50. Wilson also ranks in the top 50 in RBIs per game with 22 in 15 games.
Thornton opened the weekend series against New Mexico State with an impressive starting outing. The lefty tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out a season-high 13 batters. He allowed only three hits and one walk as GCU cruised to a 6-1 win in the weekend opener.
Thornton is 2-0 on the year with an ERA of 1.09. In 24 2/3 innings, he has struck out 38 and walked two. He ranks in the nation's top 10 for strikeouts and top 30 for ERA.
Wilson was named WAC Hitter of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Thornton followed up an opening-weekend WAC Pitcher of the Week honor with this week's honor.
