GCU tops 1st WAC seeding system rankings

Lopes hold top score in formula that determines tournament seeding
After being first in the standings through the first week of WAC play and first among conference teams in the first NCAA Evaluation Tool rankings, Grand Canyon is first in the conference again.
The Lopes top the WAC Resume Seeding System rankings in the season's first release Monday. The rating will determine seeding for the eight-team WAC Tournament in March after regular-season standings identify which eight teams qualify among 11 members.
With its wins against San Francisco (0.77) and UT Arlington (0.34) rewarding GCU the most points, the Lopes lead the conference with 1.76 WAC Resume Seeding System points. The algorithm rewards teams that face stronger competition and factors nonconference and conference games. Tarleton State (1.21) is the only other team with a score higher than 1.0, and only six of 11 teams are on the positive side after the first month of action.
The formula, unique to the conference, is in its second season of use after being developed by Ken Pomeroy of kenpom.com with WAC Commissioner Brian Thornton and WAC Associate Commissioner Drew Speraw.
The breakdown of each result's worth for each team is available on the WAC site and is updated throughout the season.
