For the first time in Grand Canyon women's soccer history, the Lopes have an All-American in senior forward
Gianna Gourley.
Â

Gourley was named to the third team of the United Soccer Coaches All-America, making her one of the top 46 players in the country after a historic season.
Â
"Gianna being named All-American is an absolutely phenomenal honor," GCU head coach
Chris Cissell. "Gianna deserves this honor. She has had an amazing season and a phenomenal career and is a true All-American on and off the field. Gianna is a first-class forward and a true goal-scoring machine, but she knows that a lot of her success is owed to her teammates and the style of soccer and the tactics that we play allow her to get in great positions to score goals."
Â
Gourley was a non-stop scoring machine this season, breaking her Lopes program records with 21 goals and 47 points. Those marks are both among the top four in the national rankings, and she was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year for her efforts.
Â
Her strong play continued into the postseason as she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the WAC Tournament, which GCU won to advance to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons. Gourley led the tournament in scoring with three goals.
Â
The scoring barrage for Gourley began when she transferred to GCU from Iowa before the 2021 season. Gourley worked in tandem with midfielder Marleen Schimmer, that season's WAC Offensive Player of the Year, and scored 10 goals and helped advance the Lopes to the national tournament for the first time.
Â
Heading into 2022, Gourley became the primary scoring option, and made the most of it, collecting 39 goals and 89 points in 43 games to set those GCU records. That led to the Las Vegas native becoming the leading active Division I scorer this season with 55 career goals and third with 128 career points.
Â
In her GCU career, Gourley was named to the All-WAC first team three times and earned United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region honors twice, landing on the first team this year as the only non-Power 5 honoree.
